These simple tricks can help you avoid returns

Comfortable, simple, and fast: Online shopping is booming, and so are returns. In the fashion industry, almost every second order is returned. What impact does this have on our environment, and how can returns be minimized?

HOW RETURNS IMPACT OUR ENVIRONMENT

Statistically, about one in six orders in Germany is returned — that’s 280 million packages per day. The return rate in the fashion industry is the highest at 46 percent. In addition to huge amounts of waste, the extra transportation causes CO2 emissions of 238,000 tons. That’s roughly equivalent to 2,200 car trips from Hamburg to Moscow. Express deliveries also mean that transport vehicles are often only minimally loaded.

What many customers don’t know: returns from large corporations are often no longer resold but destroyed. A study by the University of Bamberg shows that in Germany alone, around 20 million returns were destroyed in 2018. A key reason: processing returns costs companies time and money. From an economic perspective, disposing of returned items is usually more attractive than making the products available for purchase again or donating them.

HOW TO AVOID RETURNS AND FIND YOUR PERFECT FAVORITE PIECE

CHOOSE THE RIGHT SIZE CAREFULLY

To reduce returns, it’s important that you order the right size. For this, it’s best to refer to the size chart of the respective product. At Les Lunes, you will also find a size recommendation on the product page if you are between two sizes. Additionally, the sizes our models wear in the product photos are indicated. If you’re still unsure which size to choose, our customer service will be happy to advise you.

CHOOSE ITEMS THOUGHTFULLY

Sometimes we tend to order clothes that don’t really suit us or turn out to be a bad purchase once the package arrives. To avoid this, ask yourself these six questions before adding the item to your cart:

• Do I already own a similar piece of clothing?
• Can I combine the item with at least five pieces from my wardrobe?
• For how many occasions can I wear this piece?
• Is the item just a current fashion trend, or can I wear it for years to come?
• What materials is the item made of? Does it have good quality?
• Do I really like the item?
